Your Own Private Island – Free!

At the recent FlightSimCon, we announced the upcoming release of iBlueYonder’s first branded scenery package. Fans of our Cushman Meadows/Bear Gulch scenery (done a while back for Orbx) know that from time to time, we like to play around with “what-if” scenarios for private bush airports. Since our geographic focus has shifted to the New England region of the US, we thought why not do a little virtual homesteading on one of the rocky, windswept islands off the coast of Maine?

Introducing The Heron’s Nest, a rough dirt strip gouged into the crest of Outer Heron Island, Maine. It comes complete with a cozy little cottage, a barn hangar for parking your ride, and nature, nature, nature. If the undulating dirt strip gives you the willies, you can also fly in on floats and park in the water hangar in the protected cove near the cottage.

hn_announcement_5How soon will this be ready for release? We’re aiming for mid-July. The original plan was to release it at the FS Conference, but we ran into a glitch that held up testing. If the FS gods are willing, the beta test will resume in earnest in a few days.

How do you get it? That one’s easy; just sign up for our mailing list using the form on the sidebar to the right of this page. If you’re already on the list, then you’re golden: all members of the iBY mailing list will receive a link to download The Heron’s Nest free of charge. It’s our way of saying thanks for sticking with us through the rocky process of creating an all-new company.

Tell your GA-loving friends, too. Once the scenery has been released, anyone signing up for the list will automatically be sent a download link.

Now, back to the testing center!

I love airports like this! Mostly because of what you have done in the past. It’s great that it will be on the east coast, as there isn’t near the amount of scenery there as there is on the west coast. I’m definitely looking forward to this release. Thanks for the preview shots.

Wow! Just heard about this site through Bushpounders. A – Didn’t realize this was Bill Womack’s site; B – Didn’t realize Plum Island was in New England, and C – Didn’t realize Bill was responsible for all the great scenery that is listed here. Now that I know all that, I’m signed up; and Bill, if you make it (ESPECIALLY if it’s out in the northeast), I’ll buy it! You’re one of the very best there is.

I lived in Maine for 20 years but now in Southern California. I miss Maine but not the Winters. This scenery is beautiful and would be an enjoyable addition to my flying experience in P3D v2.5 if compatible. If you don’t have a lobster boat tied up to the dock I’ll have to make one. I’m a freeware developer. I can be found on Sim Outhouse and FSDeveloper.

Bill. Sorry to do this here.. Flight 1 no longer had Plumb Island, and neighter do I. The drive it was on went south a few years back. And I have all my purchase info from Flight1. suggestions?

Looks like the original file for the Flight1 Plum Island installer went AWOL when I moved to this new server. I poked around my hard drive and found it, so the link on the Plum Island product page to the F1 version should work. Try this:

      Hi Kostas,

The link is simply to add us to your email client as a contact. The VCF file is a V-card, which your email program should recognize as contact info. If you can’t figure out what to do with it, don’t worry; it shouldn’t affect your subscription to just ignore it.

Bill, any chance you would partner with a little airport in NE to create scenery for it and work with them to see that they somehow get help in remaining opened?

The airport is KHIE (Mount Washington Regional Airport) Whitefield, NH. Apparently, the town is not much interested in helping them with staying open. I love your Plum Island scenery so I told the airport mgr about your work. He said that they just took airiel shots of the property and could provide photos of their hangers and cute little terminal.

Just wondering and trying to help? Can I put you two together for dialog?

      August 11, 2015, 3:00 pm

      Hi David,

As evidenced by how long it’s taking me to get The Heron’s Nest released, I don’t have a lot of time at the moment for scenery creation. What little I do have is going toward my current projects. I’d love to help out, but I’m just really strapped for time right now.
