Orbx Lancair IV-P: Jaguar Edition Repaint

This is a Jaguar Edition green and gold repaint of the fabulous Orbx Lancair IV-P. It comes kitted out with a full Jag interior as well, including biscuit leather seats with embossed leaping cats on the headrests, and a burled walnut instrument panel with black leather accents. With a plane this sleek and fast, the paint seemed a natural fit!

There are two downloads — an HD version with large texture sheets that provided extremely crisp textures, and an SD version that’s downsized to work well with older video cards.

Tim “Piglet” Conrad’s PC-7 v.2: N4SZ “Checkerboard” Repaint

This is a repaint of Piglet’s fantastic PC-7 trainer which takes advantage of the larger 2048 texture sheets that he used in the upgraded version 2. It’s based on a paint I saw on airliners.net that feature a pearl-gray plane with a black fuselage stripe, a checkerboard tail, and what look to be invasion stripes on the wings. For a mostly monochrome scheme, I think it has a lot of zip.

Carenado Cessna 172N: High-Definition Black VC Panel

Carenado’s Cessna 172N is remarkably similar to the 172M that I did my primary training in. I was going through some of my old photos from several years back, and came across a set of cockpit pictures I’d taken in my trainer. They were good enough quality to use as a basis for a black panel to use in Carenado’s bird, so I cooked them up and merged them into the original texture sheets.

This panel is designed as a replacement for the default white panel in any C172N repaint you might have. They’re twice the resolution of the originals at 2048×2048 instead of 1024.

Hey Bill,

Thanks for the repaints! I guess you fly out of Stark’s?
I live up next door to KHIO btw, have thought of getting
a real license too but life and finances keep getting
in the way.

Hi Jack,

Actually, I’ve never flown out of Stark’s IRL. I did my training at KTTD (Portland-Troutdale), but like you, it’s been a while since life and finances let me get airborne. I get my fix by sim flying while I build up enough cash to finish that PPL.

Thanks for doing the Mooney Mite repaints.

Now I just need somewhere to fly the Mite……..

Would like to get Plum Island but where do I purchase it?

If you visit the Plum Island page (http://iblueyonder.com/fsx-scenery-packages/hundred-dollar-burger-plum-island/), there’s a big “Get Your Copy Now” button. Just follow that.

Hello Bill,

When installing the Kenmore Air repaint on Corenado’s new C208B Caravan you need to change the ‘ui_manufacture’r from Cessna to Carenado.

Great looking repaint.

Many thanks Bill for your C 172 panel. I wanted to buy Carenado’s 172 during the sale but just didn’t like that white panel. As soon as I saw your black panel I downloaded it and then bought the Carenado model. Really looks good – thanks again….. Howard

What a terrific piece of artwork on the Lancair Jag edition. A true graphic masterpiece! The interior looks so similar in appearance to my own XJ Executive.
Simply put……………………………………Great Work, and much, much appreciated.

Hi bill,
I work for a little airline up here in Nome, Alaska. It’s Bering Air, and they fly the Caravan amoong others. But I was wondering if it was possible to have a paint made up in the Bering Air paint scheme for the Cessna Caravan?

Reply

Bill Womack February 6, 2011 at 2:18 pm

Hi Jade,

I might be able to take care of that. First off, I’d need some shots of the real-world planes from several angles, including right and left sides, close-ups, and the tail.

Reply

Jade February 6, 2011 at 8:49 pm

here’s the website http://www.beringair.com
there is some photo’s of the caravan in the website.
hope that will help a little? At least give you some idea?

Reply

Bill Womack February 6, 2011 at 9:12 pm

It does indeed give me an idea, but I’m still not sure of the colors exactly. It looks like the plane bodies are overall a kind of light tan… is that right? Also, is that lightest stripe white, or a very, very light blue? It appears to glow, almost. Any more pics you could dig up would be very helpful.

Reply

Jade February 6, 2011 at 9:47 pm

Yes the plane overall is a very light tan. The belly pod is a brown, and the lightest stripe is white that is correct.
The pics on the website are the only one’s I can think of?
I hope that is enough to help?

Any chance of the Jaguar repaint for the default FSX Beech Baron – as seen in the real world photos of a Baron in the Jaguar scheme.

Thanks.

Reply

Bill Womack May 7, 2011 at 8:53 am

Nah, I don’t much like repainting the default planes. I’ve done a couple of the larger ones before, but they tend to be riddled with mirrored surfaces and hacks to make them perform better but which are a pain to paint around. I haven’t had much time for painting lately, and with the KPDX project heating up, I might not have time for a while. Thanks for checking in, though!

I am looking for some help. I have been trying to install the black panel for the Carenado C172, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Trying to follow the install instructions doesn’t seem to work. I am suspecting that it is either because there are no bmp files in the folders, or I am doing something wrong. Any guidance here would be helpful.

Reply

Bill Womack June 13, 2011 at 8:24 pm

The zip file contains two BMP files. All you have to do to get it to work is copy them to whatever Carenado 172 texture folder you want to use. For instance, the blue repaint for the 172 can be found at [path to your FSX root]\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado C172II N\texture.BLUE\ – to give that paint a black panel, you’d just copy the two BMP files from the zip into that folder. You’ll be asked if you want to overwrite the current textures. Just say yes and you’re good to go.

Hello Mr. Womack,
I just downloaded the AC680S from flightsimonline.com and it’s an really beautiful aircraft, but somehow I can’t find your FedEx repaint. I searched on Flightsim and Avsim. Can you tell me how I can get it? I would like to fly in the area around Sitka and the AC680S with the FedEx repaint would be perfect for it.

Thanks!
Greetings from Germany
Martin

Bill Womack September 18, 2011 at 8:03 am

Wow, did I really do a FedEx repaint for that one? It’s been so long, I hardly remember it. If it’s anywhere, it’d be on flightsim.com or in the Avsim file library. If you haven’t already, look under FS2004 aircraft repaints, or do a search on author name “Bill Womack”. Sorry, that’s all I can tell you. This is why I’ve started gathering all my freeware work here – it’s just much easier to keep track of it.

I just searched for your name at Flightsim and Avsim and couldn’t find it. But I found your awesome repaint for the “Cardenado C185 Amphibian” which I brought a couple of days ago.
I also found out that you made the beautiful Tongass Fjords scenery. It’s really amazing! Sitka is my new Meigs Field. :)

any fix?

never mind… i fixed it. i just copied “windows”…”windows.”…and “plexiglass” from another texture folder and it solved the problem.

Bill Womack October 14, 2011 at 10:08 am

It sounds like a texture was missing or the texture.cfg file wasn’t working. In any case, glad you got it sorted out.

Bill – I found your Black Panel for the Carenado 172N and sent it to a friend. Like you he is an avid simmer and like has also translated his love of flight to real world flying. He has his private ticket and is working his instrument certuication. an instrument The black panel looks very much like the one in the 172 he occasionally rents. I fly in FS9 and would like to see the black panel in the Carenado 172 that I fly in FS. Would it b feasible, or even possible, to convert the panel to an FS9 comp[atible form? How might I go about that?

BWomack December 18, 2011 at 4:16 pm

I’m not sure there’s any difference between this version of the texture in FS9 and FSX. I don’t recall the format of this texture at the moment, but it it’s a BMP, you can probably just use it directly in FS9. If it’s a DDS file, you’ll need a tool to convert it to BMP. Google can probably help you sort out what tools are available for that.

Hi Bill

Great repaints here and a great blog. Could you recommend any specific tutorials or videos on getting started with repaints. I’ve got a couple of Carenado planes I’d like to try and do some paints for but I’m new to this. I’ve tried searching the likes of YouTube but it’s difficult to work out which are the decent ones plus there seem to be diffrences between repaint default FSX (which I have no interest in) and Carenado aircraft. Any help appreciated.

Hi Graeme,

As luck would have it, I did a tutorial on this blog about repainting Carendo aircraft. You can see it here: http://iblueyonder.com/no-layered-paint-kit-no-problem/

That should get you started. Or completely confuse you. Hopefully the former.

Very useful indeed. I love the effects you were able to create with the different layers. I’m having a go at repainting one of the older Carendao aircraft the 182 RG Skylane. The only trouble I’ve had up to now happened when I put a logo on the wing. I only placed one logo on the wing but it duplicates to the other wing but reversed. I’m assuming the wing in the fuse2.bmp is reflective in some way. I guess I’ll just have to stay away from the wings or place symmetrical items on there.

Thansk again for the link. Greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Hi Bill,

I rediscovered the great little M-18 Mooney and I remembered spotting something about a Bugatti paint sometime past. I looked all over and even saw it referred to in a couple of forums but I couldn’t find it. Then I found your iblue yonder site and was delighted to come across the Bugatti paint. It is spectacular right down to the gorgeous tooling on the panel. I put the Jag paint on my Lancair and it really looks spiffy. Thank you for all of your work. I’m really enjoying the Alaskan landscape so I’m getting Tongass.
