Fanboy Friday Goes Post-Fourth

I don’t know about the rest of the world, but this week has been really screwy in the US. I mean, who puts a major holiday smack in the middle of the week? We all trudged off to work on Monday, slogged through Tuesday, then got a day off and gorged ourselves on barbecue, only to discover that some sick bastard designed it so we had to go right back to the grindstone yesterday and today. Highly uncool.

Sitting here in my post-pork-rib haze (still, after two days), I have no idea what to talk about in this week’s post. Even if I figure it out, there’s a good chance most of my American readers are off at the beach, the lake, the river, or wrestling gators in the swamp this weekend instead of waiting with bated breath for me to give them something else to buy. So how ’bout this: just go out and have some fun this weekend! Fly for real, fly digitally, do some plane spotting, or just drink and scratch yourself.

While you’re doing that, just know that I’m still beavering away at KVUO (making highway bridges at the moment – joy!) so sooner or later you too can have a little Columbia River flying fun. Oh yeah, and Nantucket is still simmering on a back-burner as well. In fact, I got several great new videos this week from my friend Nathan Palmer, the cat who originally arranged my KACK photo session last summer. Soon, campers. Soon.

Who else saw the announcement today that Carenado was resuming development for FS2004? Interesting. Although from reading their press release, it seems more like a test of their model conversion software than a full-fledged return to the days of yore. If I had a way to easily convert my current FSX scenery to FS9, you can bet I’d do it, too. I mean really, why not? In fact, even though I’ve bad-mouthed it for years, I might even be convinced to try porting some scenery to X-Plane 10 if I could see a clear path to do so. Never say never.

Sorry for the lack of pics. It’s hot, I’m sluggish, and I got nothing. Go have a summer weekend.

Well, in the UK ‘just going out and having some fun’ isn’t a very attractive option! While many other parts of the world are sweltering in excessive heat, we are experiencing one of the worst summers ever, thanks to the jet stream remaining stubbornly well south of where it should be. At least the weather cooperated last Saturday afternoon for the Flying Legends airshow at Duxford, where I had the joy of watching, (and almost as importantly, listening to) some of Europe’s finest warbirds performing. Eleven Spitfires in formation, for example….
Interesting about the FS2004 development. It won’t affect me as I’m firmly committed to FSX now, but there are apparently a significant number of people who haven’t made (won’t ever make?) the switch. The press release makes it very clear that they’ll only pursue this if it’s financially viable. I have my doubts.
